Aeroworks introduces adjustable seat pan concept "Omniseat" at AIX

The Hague, the Netherlands, April 5, 2018 - Aeroworks (Eur) BV, is introducing a new adjustable seat pan concept, patent pending, at the Airline Interior Expo in Hamburg (10-12 April). This innovative seat pan enables a high level of comfort for the wide diversity of passenger body dimensions in economy class or premium economy class without adding a lot of complexity to the seat. The concept was named “Omniseat” because its design provides proper support for all passengers.  Aeroworks stand 2U74 in hall B2 Upper will display prototypes of the initial concept.

The adjustable seat pan can pivot below the lumbar region of the passenger, allowing the front section of the seat pan to be raised or lowered without significant force. This keeps the control simple, increasing reliability while minimizing the weight and cost impact. This feature is complemented with an extendable bull nose allowing the seat to be extended and contracted. The combination of these two features allows for the full support of a wide range of passenger without compromise.

Aeroworks (Eur) BV, has been manufacturing and developing interior products for OEM’s since it was founded in 2000.  To develop this unique seat pan concept, Aeroworks combined its strength in the design and manufacturing of composite seating systems and its design experience of interior latching mechanisms. During ideation phase the current problems associated with economy class seating comfort were researched using scientific data available. The importance of good support of the hip to knee space from the 5th percentile Asian female to the 95th percentile western male was identified as a key factor. Using 3D scanned data from prior research and anthropometric data, proper support for this range of passenger was identified, and concepts to allow for the adjustability needed were developed.

After the introduction of the concept at the AIX, Aeroworks is looking to further development the concept, working closely together with OEM’s.
